OAKLAND, CA (October 23, 2025) — This December 6th, the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir (OIGC) returns to the historic Paramount Theater to celebrate a remarkable milestone: 40 years of joy, community, and music.

This year’s Season theme “Hope in Harmony,” embodies OIGC’s mission to inspire joy and unity among all people through Black gospel and spiritual music traditions. This year’s celebration honors resilience, togetherness, and the timeless power of collective song to carry us into peace and joy. It brings together people of all walks of life, all ages and faiths, through the transformative power of this uniquely American artform.

For four decades, the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir has been a beacon of hope, unity, and joy, bringing together voices from diverse backgrounds to create something truly extraordinary. What began as a musical collaboration has grown into a movement that celebrates inclusivity, fosters belonging, and reminds us all of the light that music can bring in challenging times.

Under the Artistic Direction of Terrance Kelly, the 40th Anniversary show will feature performances by Oakland Interfaith Youth Choir (OIYC), Community Choir (OICC) and Gospel Choir (OIGC). In addition, the concert will shine the spotlight on some of the audience’s favorite guest Gospel singers: the dynamic Jacoree Prothro, the energetic Ms. Jackie Tolbert, and powerhouse baritone Reverend Reginald Finley, along with animated ASL interpretation by Half-N-Half’s Sherry Hicks and Michael Velez, creating a more inclusive celebration for all. Get ready to jump to your feet, clap to the beat, and lift your voice!

When we started this choir, nobody thought we’d last a year. So many different beliefs and backgrounds... How could we get along? Now, 40 years later, we’ve grown into a choir family united by the power of music. We are proof that harmony is possible when hearts are open.
— Terrance Kelly

Celebrating four decades of music, the concert will also showcase Alumni returning to the stage, along with a nostalgic glimpse into the choir’s travel and performance history through pictures and fashion.

Come for the celebration; Carry home the inspiration! Join in as we fill the Paramount Theater with warmth, light, and the sound of many voices “scooping up joy!”
