Oakland Youth Chorus

The Oakland Youth Chorus (OYC), established in 1974, celebrates diverse communities through song. With the goal to build and foster multicultural understanding and respect, OYC brings together East Bay children and youth ages 7 –17  from different neighborhoods and cultural backgrounds.

The Oakland Youth Chorus provides Bay Area students with comprehensive music education. Combining repertoire from cultures around the world, performance opportunities, and a concrete foundation in music literacy, singers support their communities with performances for local schools, organizations, and cultural events each season. Financial aid is also made available on a case-by-case basis.

COVID Update: As of May 2023, OIGC does not require proof of vaccination. However, due to continuing COVID concerns, masks are strongly recommended. Any updates in the future will be communicated and all participants in the organization are required to comply with OIGC's COVID Protocols to participate. Find OIGC’s complete COVID protocols at http://www.oigc.org/governance.

“I was a member of the chorus from 1986 through 1991. OYC gave me many close friends which have lasted to this day.”
